Costa Rica Dentist Approved Tips to Help Care for Your Teeth at Home

8 Tips for Healthy Teeth and Gums

Find out what Costa Rica Dentist tips you need to follow to avoid dental emergencies during the quarantine.

With the onset of COVID-19, it is important that every conscientious citizen stays at home to win the battle against this pandemic. Even if you have strong immunity, you may be a carrier, passing the virus on to those for whom it can be potentially fatal.

Part of the social distancing mantra is ensuring your oral and physical health is in order, so you do not need to leave the house in case of an emergency. With dental clinics shut down, for the time being, dentists in Costa Rica release 8 dentist-approved oral health tips to help you take care of your teeth while at home.

  1. Brush your Teeth Twice a Day

In order to ensure your teeth are in good shape, dentists advise you brush your teeth twice a day. The most preferable times would be early in the morning and before you go to bed to avoid the risk of cavities that might worsen and end up needing root canal treatment.

  1. Use a Toothbrush with Soft Bristles

While many people believe a toothbrush with hard bristles will do a better job of cleaning, dentists advise against it. Hard bristles could potentially damage your gums and the rigorous brushing may cause stains on your teeth. To avoid gum bleeding every time you brush, invest in a toothbrush with soft bristles.

  1. Brush for at least 2 Minutes

Instead of brushing your teeth harshly that may end up in bleeding gums and stained teeth, it is better to simply increase the time you spend cleaning your teeth. Dentists advise you should brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes to do a thorough job.

  1. Clean your Tongue

While brushing their teeth, many people ignore or undermine the importance of thoroughly cleaning their tongue. With the threat of Covid-19, it is especially important to brush out your tongue to remove any lurking bacteria. Cleaning your tongue will also ensure you do not experience bad breath.

  1. Limit Your Intake of Soft Drinks

Sugary beverages can make you prone to cavities and caries due to buildup of plaque. This can aggravate and cause severe tooth pain due to tooth decay. In order to prevent such circumstances, especially during quarantine, dentists advise you to stay away from excessive consumption of sugary beverages and foods.

  1. Use Fluoride Toothpaste

To provide your teeth the extra protection, ensure you use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is effective in combating tooth decay that may expose you to a host of dental problems.

  1. Religiously Floss

Costa Rica Dentists state that flossing is just as important as brushing. Flossing is not just to extract pieces of food stuck in your teeth. It helps to stimulate your gums, lower inflammation, and reduce plaque. It is advised you floss once daily to help strengthen your teeth.

  1. Drink Water after Every Meal

While water is beneficial in any case, dentists advise you to drink water after every meal to wash away the negative effects of acidic foods that may be damaging to your teeth.
