Understanding pricing
Implant brand
Nobel Biocare and Straumann implants cost $200 to $400 more per implant than Korean brands (OSSTEM, MIS). Both are safe and effective. Nobel and Straumann are more universally compatible with US follow-up dentists.
Prosthetic material
Zirconia crowns and prosthetics cost 20 to 40 percent more than acrylic but last significantly longer and look more natural. For All-on-4, the difference between acrylic and zirconia final prosthetics is $2,000 to $4,000 per arch.
Bone grafting
Not everyone needs a graft. Your CT scan determines this before you travel. A minor simultaneous graft adds $400 to $600. A major staged graft requiring a separate healing visit adds $800 to $1,500 plus an additional trip.
Clinic location and tier
Clinics in Escazu and Santa Ana near the international dental corridor charge more than clinics in other areas. Top-tier clinics with Nobel Biocare-only policies, in-house CBCT scanners, and on-site anesthesiologists command premium pricing.
Sedation option
Local anesthesia is standard and included. IV sedation with a licensed anesthesiologist adds $300 to $600 per session and is not always included in base quotes. If you prefer to be sedated, confirm availability and cost upfront.
Number of visits
Single implants require two visits 3 to 5 months apart. All-on-4 also requires two visits. Veneers, crowns, and root canals complete in one visit. Two-visit procedures have lower procedure cost but higher total travel cost.

FAQ
These are verified starting prices from clinics we have reviewed. Prices can vary by 10 to 20 percent depending on the clinic tier, implant brand, and materials you choose. All verified clinics on this platform provide a written itemized quote before any treatment begins. Use these prices as a baseline for planning, not as a guaranteed final cost.
A standard implant quote from a verified clinic includes the pre-surgical consultation, cone beam CT scan, implant surgery with anesthesia, the implant itself (Nobel Biocare, Straumann, or Zimmer), the abutment, and the final zirconia or porcelain crown. It does not automatically include bone grafting, extractions of other teeth, or sedation anesthesia if you want it. Ask explicitly about each of these in writing before you book travel.
Three factors drive most price differences between clinics: implant brand (Nobel Biocare and Straumann cost more than Korean brands like OSSTEM or MIS), lab location (in-house labs produce faster results at lower cost), and clinic overhead (location in Escazu vs Santa Ana, facility size, staff ratios). Higher price does not automatically mean better outcome a mid-tier clinic using Nobel Biocare with an experienced oral surgeon often outperforms a premium-priced clinic with poor coordinator communication.
All verified clinics charge by procedure. You receive a written itemized quote specifying each line item before treatment begins. Unlike some dental tourism destinations, Costa Rica clinics do not use day-rate billing. The quote you receive is what you pay, with any additions requiring your written approval.
Common exclusions to confirm: bone grafting if your CT scan shows insufficient density, sinus lift for upper implants in the molar area, extractions of any remaining teeth before implant placement, IV sedation if you prefer it over local anesthesia, and the second visit flight and accommodation for implant final crown placement. Ask each clinic to quote these specifically rather than assuming they are included.
Send your most recent panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan to the clinic before booking flights. A reputable clinic will review your records and give you a realistic quote range including any likely contingencies. Clinics that give firm pricing without reviewing your records are giving you an estimate, not a quote. The difference matters when you are already in Costa Rica.
Most clinics require full payment before treatment begins. Some accept a deposit to secure your appointment with the balance due on arrival. A few clinics partner with US-based medical financing companies like CareCredit or Alphaeon that can be arranged before you travel. Bitcoin and wire transfer are widely accepted. Most major credit cards are accepted but may incur a 3 to 5 percent processing fee.
For a Miami patient replacing 4 implants: Costa Rica implants $3,600 plus flights $300 plus 7 nights hotel $700 equals roughly $4,600 total. The same 4 implants in Miami would cost $18,000. Net saving: $13,400. For a New York patient getting All-on-4 both arches: Costa Rica $16,000 plus flights $600 plus 10 nights hotel $1,000 equals $17,600 total. The same in New York costs $50,000 to $70,000. Travel cost is rarely more than 5 to 10 percent of the total saving.
