Getting oral health in Costa Rica is important if you want to maintain good physical health. Bad dental hygiene and health have actually been linked to the increase in risk for physical diseases and mental health issues. Maintaining Oral Health in Costa Rica

There are 5 main studies that we will be outlining today to prove the link between oral health and pancreatic cancer.

Oral Bacteria and Aggressive Tumors

If harmful oral bacteria end up in the pancreas, it can lead to more aggressive tumors. Currently, it can be really difficult to differentiate between cancerous and inactive pancreatic tumors. Even to rule out cancer, patients have to undergo surgery. In 2019, researchers found that the presence of harmful oral bacteria in the pancreases can be linked to how severe the cystic tumor is.

African American Women and Higher Risks

In a March 2019 study, it was found that African American women with poor oral health are at a higher risk of pancreatic cancer. Common diseases like Periodontitis and tooth loss can actually increase the chances of getting pancreatic cancer among African American women. For women who have lost five teeth or more, this risk increases.

Periodontitis Bacteria and Cancer

In a study conducted in January 2018, researchers found that there is a huge role played by the bacteria that cause Periodontitis in cancer development. The existence of these bacteria can actually lead to the onset of cancers including pancreatic cancer.

Periodontal Disease Bacteria and Cancer Risk

In 2016, a study actually found a link between periodontal disease bacteria and the increased risk of pancreatic cancer risk. People who have high levels of Porphyromonas gingivalis (specific oral bacteria linked to Periodontitis) in their saliva were found to be at a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

Specific Mouth Bacteria and Pancreatic Cancer

In April of 2016, one study found that the presence of bacteria has been linked to periodontal disease. Even in the mouths of healthy individuals, the bacteria were able to increase the risk of pancreatic cancer.
