The real cost, and why internet prices contradict each other

Search "All-on-4 Costa Rica cost" and you will find $8,300, $9,500, $10,480, $12,000 and $33,000, all presented confidently. Most of those numbers are technically true about different things. Three variables explain nearly all of the spread. First, per arch versus full mouth: an arch is one jaw, and a full mouth is both, so both arches means doubling the arch price, not a hidden discount.

Second, the prosthesis material. The implants and the surgery are identical; the bridge attached to them is not. Acrylic is lighter and more affordable, and typically gets replaced after years of wear. Zirconia is stronger, more stain-resistant and closer to natural teeth in look and feel, at a higher price. Third, what the quote includes: imaging, extractions, sedation and the provisional bridge are inside some quotes and outside others.

The original long-term study (Maló and colleagues, published in the Journal of the American Dental Association in 2011) followed 245 patients with 980 implants in immediate function: implant success was 98.1 percent at five years and 94.8 percent with up to 10 years of follow-up, and the prostheses themselves survived at 99.2 percent. The follow-up study, published in Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research in 2019, extended the window to 10 to 18 years across 471 patients and 1,884 implants: cumulative prosthetic survival of 98.8 percent, with implant survival of 93 percent.

Read those numbers the way a careful patient should. They describe the protocol executed properly: correct planning on a CT scan, stable implant placement, and follow-up over time. The same 2019 study found that patients with previous biological complications faced a substantially higher risk of implant failure. The evidence is strong, and it is conditional. Who All-on-4 is not for

Then biology takes over: the bone needs 4 to 6 months to fuse to the implants, a process called osseointegration, while you live your normal life at home.

The second, shorter trip is for the definitive prosthesis: impressions, fitting and final adjustments. Two trips is not a sales inconvenience; it is how the protocol works everywhere, including the US. A clinic anywhere that promises your permanent teeth in a single week is compressing what biology refuses to compress.
